If you think a number is wrong
Tell us. This is the most useful email we get, and we would rather hear it than not. Every confirmed fix lands as a test case before it lands as a fix, so the same error cannot come back in a later version.
Include as much of this as you can:
- The exact values you entered, and in what order
- Which solver, tab or pour shape you were in
- What the App showed, and what you expected instead
- Where your expected figure comes from — a table, a text, a framing square, a rule of thumb
- In RawMath, the units, waste percentage and bag size that were set
- Your display resolution setting, and the app version from Settings
A screenshot covers most of that in one go. If you use "show the math" to expand the result, the screenshot will include the formula we applied, which usually tells us immediately whether the disagreement is in the arithmetic, the method, or a constant.
Common questions
How do I restore a purchase on a new phone?
Install Sawline, open Settings, and tap Restore purchases. Sign in to the same App Store or Google Play account you bought it with — that is the only thing the restore depends on. There is no Sawline account, no password and no email to look up.
If the restore does not bring your unlock back, that is a bug on our side rather than something you did wrong. Email us and we will sort it out.
What happens when the trial ends?
The two apps measure the trial differently, and what is left afterwards differs too.
Sawline has one trial per calculator, and the trial is the walkthrough. Each of the three calculators, area, roof and stairs, starts with a guided walkthrough; when it ends, or you skip it, that calculator locks. To keep using them, start the yearly or monthly subscription, each of which begins with a free trial, or buy lifetime access once.
RawMath counts calculations rather than days: the trial ends after fifteen, or after two days once you have made at least ten, whichever comes first. After that you get five calculations a day, permanently and without ads. Pro lifts the daily limit and adds creating and editing jobs.
Everything you saved during the trial stays on your device and stays readable. Nothing is deleted and nothing is held hostage.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No to both. There is no sign-up, and the calculator has no network code in it — it works the same in a basement, in a lift shaft or in airplane mode. The only time either App needs a connection is the moment you buy or restore a purchase, because that goes through the store.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple and Google, not by us — we never receive your payment, so we have no way to return it.
On iOS, use reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android, use the Google Play order history, or Play's refund request form. If a request is refused and you think it shouldn't have been, tell us and we will back you up with the store.
Sawline: which code rulesets does the stair check use?
IRC 2021 or IRC 2024, chosen in Settings. Every row of the code report names the ruleset in force, the actual value, the required value and the section number — including rows that pass.
This is a geometric check of what you entered. It is not a code review and it does not replace your building official, whose determination governs. Codes are amended locally, so check the edition in force where you are working. See Terms, section 7.
What permissions does the app ask for?
On Android, two in both apps: network access, used only when you buy or restore a purchase, and vibrate, for key press feedback you can switch off. On iOS, RawMath asks for none. From version 1.2.2 Sawline adds two on each platform, each asked once: one for ad measurement (Apple's tracking prompt on iPhone, the advertising ID on Android) and one for notifications about new features, which it asks about only after you have used the calculator.
It asks for no camera, microphone, photos, contacts, location or storage access, and it does not request permission to modify system settings or draw over other apps. The full list is in the Privacy Policy, section 7.
What data do you collect about me?
Nothing you type. There is no account and no ads in either app, and your calculations, dimensions, project names and pours never leave your device. Two things do leave: an anonymous purchase record when you buy or restore, so the purchase can be restored later, and anonymous usage and crash reporting through Firebase — screen names, named events, counts and bands, never a value you entered. In RawMath you can switch that reporting off, under Settings.
Sawline also runs ads on Facebook and Instagram, and from version 1.2.2 it tells Meta when an install or a purchase came from one of them. On iPhone it asks first, with Apple's tracking prompt, and No withholds your advertising identifier. On Android you can reset or delete the advertising ID in your phone's settings. On a phone set to European time nothing is sent to Meta at all without a yes, and you can change your answer under Settings ▸ Ad measurement.
Sawline can also send a notification when something new comes to the app, at most once a month, through Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging. It asks first, and Settings ▸ News from Sawline turns it off.
This website is separate. It uses Google Analytics to count visits and to see which of the free calculators get used, and in the UK and the EU it asks first. It never sends anything you type into a calculator, here or in the app.
The Privacy Policy spells out every case in detail.
RawMath: where do the bag yields come from?
The 40, 60 and 80 lb figures are Quikrete's published coverage: 0.30, 0.45 and 0.60 cubic feet per bag. The 20, 25, 30 and 40 kg sizes are derived from that same yield density, because the bag makers do not all publish one, and the app labels them as derived rather than presenting them as a manufacturer's figure.
Coverage is a nominal figure either way. It shifts with how wet the mix is worked and how much ends up outside the form, which is what the waste allowance is for. Order with that in mind.
RawMath: what waste percentage should I use?
The app defaults to 10% and lets you set your own, per job or as a default. The usual range is 5 to 10% for spillage, over-excavation and an uneven subgrade. A thin slab on rough ground wants more than a formed column does.
Whatever you pick, it stays on its own row. Raw volume, the allowance and the order quantity are three separate figures, so you can always see what the allowance added.
RawMath: what does Pro unlock?
Unlimited calculations, and creating and editing jobs. Everything else, including all eight pour shapes, both unit systems, every bag size and the cost comparison, is in the free tier and stays there.
Pro is a weekly, monthly or annual subscription, or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Buying Lifetime does not cancel a subscription you already have, because neither store lets an app do that. Cancel it yourself in your App Store or Google Play account.
I lost my work / I changed phones and my saved work is gone
What the apps save lives on the device, so it moves with your device backup — iCloud Backup on iOS, Google backup on Android — provided that backup was switched on before the old phone was wiped. We hold no copy of your work and cannot recover it for you, which is the flip side of never collecting it in the first place.
Accessibility
The App respects your system text size and reduced-motion setting, and ships a high-contrast outdoor theme. If something is hard to use with a screen reader, at a large text size, or in gloves, tell us — that is a bug, and we would like to know about it.
